About us

Anam Duan was founded in 1999 as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, and created the Franciscan Ecology Center in 2004. Anam Duan is from the Irish Anam meaning "Life" or "Spirit" and Duan meaning "Song" or "Poem." Pronounced AN' um DOO' an, it means the lifesong that binds together people, communities, cultures, the natural environment, and all life.
The Franciscan Ecology Center engages in environmental education, community ecosystem restoration projects, leadership development, and public policy and research. The Center is grounded in a Franciscan environmental ethic.
