Education

The Franciscan Ecology Center engages in environmental education for youth and adults through environmental education clubs, public workshops, retreats, simulation games, and its electronic newsletter, the Earth Canticle. All environmental education is based on a Franciscan environmental ethic that respects the intrinsic worth and dignity of all living and nonliving things, and recognizes the interdependence of humans, human cultures and our ecosystems. The Franciscan Ecology Center's environmental education integrates ecological science, social science, the arts, culture, spirituality, leadership skills, outdoor education and recreation, hands-on ecological service learning projects, civic participation, and peace and justice. We recognize the increasing complexity of our 21st Century world, and the increasing need for education and training that will help communities and institutions address issues of environmental health, sustainablity, globalization, peace and conflict resolution, equity and justice. Educational experiences are aimed at preparing the generation of today and tomorrow for decision making, civic participation, and lifestyles that are healthy and sustainable.
